Brera, ancient district of Milano, full of history, art, culture, has always been the beloved area of artists, who met at small bars, later called "caffe letterari" (literature coffees); still today they are frequented by "milanesi" and tourists coming here on purpose. This district still preserves the narrow streets paved with old cobblestones which create a sort of passage that, in former times, was reserved for horse-drawn carriages. The whole district boasts many historical buildings and important monuments, among them the "Pinacoteca di Brera", which today hosts the Accademia di Belle Arti (Arts Academy), and the church Santa Maria del Carmine in the picturesque square of the same name.
