Main Train Station, Royal Room 01
Green "Cipollino" marble from Carrara prevails in these three spaces being the material principally used for the various columns pillars and covering of pilasters. The wainscoting is in "occhialino" from the province of Bergamo and above it "pietra aurora" from Brescia. The floors are in inlaid wood bordered by marble.
The antechamber and the small reserved salon are symmetrical and similarly decorated. In each one there is parquet with a star-shaped flower design in the middle. Two columns stand on each side between the pilasters of the main wall, two mirrors on each side divided into twelve squares and underneath these are two wooden consoles with vessels surmounted by eagles, lacunar barrel vaults with an alternating designs of flowers, eagles and the crown.
The central reception area is separated from the two smaller sectors by partitioning columns. On the side walls of the latter two niches covered with blue mosaics with a rhomboidal design each housing a large green amphora can be seen. In the centre two round tables stand on a small parquet square decorated with a lily which is also found on the lateral brass grating. There is a crystal lamp in the centre of the ceiling with a stucco eagle on each side.
The floor of the central salon, which was originally covered by a carpet as can be seen in photographs from the nineteen-thirties, is a large expanse of inlaid parquet with a geometric design for which mahogany, cherry, rosewood, durmast was used. The two main sides of the salon are occupied by three big windows giving onto the road alternating with pillars with Corinthian capitals in stucco work.
The furnishings in harmony with the environment are in Imperial style and are made of walnut, dark rosewood and mahogany with some parts in silvered metal.
